A New Chapter In The Yorkshire Dales

The Beginning

Every day when we talk to our guests, we see their enthusiasm towards our beautiful countryside.

Many visitors wanted to explore beyond Grassington but weren't sure where to go or how to see more of the Dales without simply following the usual tourist routes. Some were nervous about driving on the narrow single track roads.

We thought we could help.

Dales Tours is designed around small groups of no more than six people, giving us the flexibility to take our time, stop for photographs, answer questions and showcase less known locations along the way.

We don't want our guests to feel like passengers on a coach trip. We want them to enjoy the journey, discover the Dales and feel they've experienced something more personal.

My Story

If someone told me a few years ago that, in my sixties, I'd be setting up a tour company in the Yorkshire Dales, I probably wouldn't have believed them.

But here we are, getting ready to launch Dales Tours.

After many years of working in the corporate world in London, my business partner and I decided it was time for change. We left behind the commuting, meetings and deadlines and moved to Grassington, swapping city life for the hills, drystone walls and villages of the Yorkshire Dales.

We haven't regretted it for a moment.

Whether you're visiting the Yorkshire Dales for the first time or returning to somewhere you already love, we hope to show you a few places you might otherwise miss and give you a reason to come back.

The Area

We're fortunate to run Ashfield House, our 17th century bed and breakfast in the heart of Grassington.

Welcoming guests has become a big part of our lives. Over the years, we've met people from all over the world; many have travelled considerable distances to experience the Yorkshire Dales.

One of the best parts of running Ashfield House is seeing guests return, some have stayed with us several times over the years and a number have become good friends. It's always lovely to see familiar faces walking through the door again.

And, of course we couldn't ignore All Creatures Great & Small.

It has been fascinating to see the village transformed into Darrowby and to welcome visitors who have discovered the Yorkshire Dales through the series.

Our Tours combine some of those much-loved filming locations with the scenery, villages, history and stories that make the Dales so special. There is much more to discover beyond the places seen on television.
